Montana Casinos

By Adel Awwad

Montana is impressive in size as the fourth largest state in the entire country. It spans approximately 94 million acres. Montana boasts a sizeable mass of natural forests and millions of acres of protected wilderness. Wildlife is abundant in Montana, including bears, deer, elk, wolves, and antelope. In fact, Montana is home to about 500 species of wildlife. Winters in Montana are usually cold, but without extended periods of freezing weather. In the summer, temperatures typically hover in the 70s.

There are plenty of attractions in Montana, including the National Bison Range, Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, the Charles M Russell National Wildlife Refuge, and Yellowstone National Park. Montana actually shares Yellowstone, the oldest national park in the world, with Wyoming and Idaho. Montana is also home to breathtaking mountains, pristine waters, and relaxing hot springs. Visitors to Montana can enjoy a plethora of activities, from hiking and skiing to dining and shopping. Furthermore, for many visitors, as well as residents, Montana casinos also hold great appeal.

Montana is truly a gambler's delight. Gamblers can enjoy video poker, bingo machines, and keno in Montana. The maximum bet for these games is $2 and the maximum payout is $800. Many live games are also legal in Montana casinos, such as raffles, keno, bingo, rummy, whist, hearts, cribbage, and bridge. Also available in Montana casinos are fantasy sports leagues and sports pools.

In Montana, bars and taverns are permitted to have and operate up to 20 video gambling devices, allowing patrons to enjoy bingo, poker, and keno. These machines do not pay out cash, as law does not permit that. Instead, machines located in bars and taverns supply the user with a paper receipt, which is redeemed by the establishment's cashier. Bets are capped at $2, with payouts of $800. As required by Montana gaming regulations, these machines return at least 80 percent.

There are several Indian Montana casinos. These casinos also provide users with paper receipts, redeemable from a casino cashier. The maximum bet in Indian Montana casinos is $2, with a maximum payout of $1000. However, there are no minimum or maximum payout requirements for Montana casinos on Indian reservations.

There are many casinos spread throughout Montana, allowing for quite a large selection of games to play. The names of Montana Casinos, as well as locations and descriptions, can be found quite easily online. To gamble legally in Montana, you must be at least 18 years of age.

Gambling Addiction: Hypnosis Can Help You Break Free

By Marcus Schroefel

First we have to know what is addiction. It is a big issue in present era and most of people are suffering from it. An addiction is nothing but only a psychological craze or dependence towards anything specially any activity. Addiction occurs when someone fails his or her control and continuously by any mean that activity is making some harmful effect to him or her. Accordingly it can take place in anything like drugs, alcohols, food, and sex and when it comes to gambling field; it becomes really a serious issue among the gamblers.

Unlike any other type of addiction this addiction is hard to identify. But generally it is seen when a person experiences win in several gambling and accordingly feels that they cant control their deep impulses to gamble and they can make a nice deal and gain more and more money through that type of activity without facing any trouble, that mainly play role in making addiction towards gambling field. Gambling addiction makes the gambler so impulsive that they can’t give any single thought to be involved again in this activity and in the winning stage the gamblers become so excited with their earnings that they don’t want to quit gambling by any mean. With that they feel their increasing intensity to gambling field. Even sometimes it is found that they are deterred by recurrent losses as they think that they can win again and get their money back. The addicted gamblers forget to think although it is a form of harmless entertainment and fun yet that can become a devastating illness too and can affect them negatively. It can lead the players very badly to big financial problems (when they start to borrow huge amount of money), mental restlessness, relationship stress and many other activities related to their lives.

Thus a recreational sport gambling turns out to be a denting experience to any gambler when he gets addicted to this betting field. Like winning phase and losing (as discussed above) there is also desperation stage which can lead a gambler to get addicted horribly. Keeping hope in mind that they can earn more and more through this betting process and eliminate their losses which they may even face on every alternative day of their playing they become mentally fatigued. Unmanageable state of their increasing debts makes them desperate to face gambling every day. Desperately the gamblers are found engaging in illegal activities to finance their gambling. They may suffer badly by hopelessness, suicidal thoughts, even arrest, divorce and any other drug exploitation. That surely leads to a complete breakdown of an addicted gambler.

Although gambling addiction cannot be identified so easily, there are some signs which can denote that addiction a little bit. That includes constant discussion about gambling, making gambling plan, gambling at any odd time, getting into a long debt circle, giving priority to only gambling not even to personal life and responsibilities and feeing the need to gamble to wipe off any practical issue or stress. It is only a concept but deliberately the sign of addiction is not confined among such behaviors only. There may be many other signs which assign gambling addiction.

If you feel you might be addicted to gambling hypnosis can be a great way to remove this type of addiction:

When the compulsion to gamble comes upon you, it makes you forget the reality of how you'll feel when you've lost (and wasted so much time into the bargain!). This is a temporary illusion.

Through hypnosis you can easily break free of the temporary pull of the gambling illusion – giving the control back to you. You will know you've outgrown the pull of gambling addiction when it no longer feels like something you want to do – like wondering what an earth you saw in someone you were once attracted to who just treated you badly.

But above everything for successful results in this treatment firstly it is required that you have to admit that you are facing restlessness with such type of activity and are feeling to give it up as soon as possible, unless and until the recovery process will not go make any further step.

Different Gambling Arenas For People At Different Income Levels

By Francis Kier

Everybody is trying to get more money, keep more of the money they have, and, at the very least, pile a little up for retirement. But lower income, middle income, and upper income groups have a different approach to multiply their money. Casino patrons visit in order to quickly turn a tiny amount of money into a large amount of money. People from every economic level visit casinos, for most people it is short-lived entertainment. When it comes to getting more serious about an ongoing way to make a little money into a lot of money, most people do their gambling in three other arenas.

You want the big money right now, so why wait? Buy a lottery ticket today and find out the result tonight. This is the first gambling arena that people frequent to try to end their money troubles. People earning under $100,000 are 2.5 times more likely to frequently buy lottery tickets as people that earn more than $100,000. No big surprise here, middle to low income earners find lottery tickets a cheap and easy way to hit big money on the way home from work. This is not a form of gambling that I would recommend as your chances of winning have been equated to being struck by lightning 25 times.

Only half of the American population has ever tried their hand at the next gambling arena: the stock market or mutual funds. You might have a retirement account with a couple mutual funds, or you could be trading in and out of stocks every few days. But this is where middle income earners go to gamble and try to get rich. The average stock portfolio is a whopping $34,300. Any stockbroker will tell you that if you are lucky and have 50 years, you may be able to own a portfolio worth a million dollars. When there is a sharp increase in the stock market, the amateurs rush in and try to make it a profession; but get financially hurt in the end. In the late 1990’s it was day-trading. I personally know successful short-term traders, but 97% of them quit after losing most/all of their trading account in a short amount of time. This is not a gambling arena that I’d recommend to build your wealth: whether short-term or long-term stock investing. (The high income earners have an extra flavor of this type of investment called a hedge fund, but these funds offer a few spectacular gains but more frequent financial implosions.)

People in the high income bracket have two gambling arenas that they employ to get richer: real estate and private placement memorandums. The beauty of investment real estate is that it can lower your taxes by taking a deduction for depreciation. This feature is not available to lottery tickets, slot machines, or mutual funds. In this gambling arena, there is land development, residential rentals, apartments, and commercial property of various types. The high income earners buy properties with a high monthly income, reduce their taxes with its depreciation, and hope for a large rise in the property value over time. But as I said before, when there is a price run-up, the amateurs rush in and ultimately get financially hurt. In 2002-2005, the rage caught on in preconstruction condominiums (the cheapest way to get into real estate). The term “flipping condos” became prevalent and masses of beginning investors have lost a lot of money because they weren’t educated about real estate investing. But professionals in the industry continue to earn money because they buy based upon monthly income, and speculative gains are just the extra icing for the investment. The second casino that high income earners use is PPM’s (private placement memorandums). These are investments that are illegal for people earning under $200,000, or have a net worth under $1 million. (The government only wants sophisticated investors who can afford to lose their money entering these unregulated investments.) These investments are normally created by small business owners that need more money to expand, so they are offering part of the ownership of their company with a higher than average rate of return. Conservative real estate offer the best odds of success for any of the gambling arenas; and then when you have built up enough money, you can begin with some conservative PPM’s.

Where do you want to focus your ‘getting richer’ effort? There is no risk free path to follow, but maybe this will help you decide: What is the probability that you will successfully pick the winning lottery numbers today? The joke you’ll hear is that “losing money on lottery tickets is a tax on the mathematically challenged.” What is the probability that you’ll buy the stock of a runaway company before the professionals run the price up? What is the probability that you can find a valuable real estate transaction? It is my opinion that educating yourself about real estate offers the best chance for sharply increasing your financial fortune.

[There is one more popular gambling arena available to people with internet/computer/technical skills, and that is joining a start-up company that is eventually taken public. The odds of success are only 7 times better than the lottery, about 1 in 6 million.]

Trust Factor

By Charles Trumpess

Military formations have long sought to lessen the tension between the rigidity of their organisational structures and the need for quick, decisive, imaginative leadership plus flexibility of movement on the battlefield. General George Armstrong Custer’s ego, for example, blinded him to the realities of the situation at the Battle of the Little Big Horn, and it cost many men their lives in consequence. The US Cavalry of the nineteenth century seems to have lacked the organisational checks-and-balances required to halt one man’s dangerous ambitions. But too much centralised control, red tape and restraint can be just as risky as too little.

During Operation Mercury, the German airborne invasion of Crete in May 1941, General Bernard Freyberg, the island’s commander, and his subordinates opted for an outdated static defence in the face of aggressive, highly motivated but lightly armed paratroops. It was largely thanks to Freyberg’s autocratic style of leadership and obsolete military thinking which allowed the Germans to eventually wrestle control of the island away from its Commonwealth defenders, a numerically superior force, and impel a humiliating evacuation.

Not only did the Germans employ every technological advantage available to them, but they also harnessed the esprit de corps, or fighting spirit of the Fallschirmjaeger (paratroops), a wholly new type of warrior. Unlike most of its adversaries at the time the German military machine believed in swift campaigns of strike and manoeuvre. By forming all available units into Kampfgruppen, or Battlegroups, a local commander had the tools, knowledge and freedom of action to ruthlessly exploit the slightest weakness in the enemy line without hesitation. In contrast, Freyberg’s unit commanders exercised almost no freedom of control over the battles they fought and lost.

You must grasp the full purpose of every enterprise, so that if your leader be killed you can yourself fulfil it.

‘Ten Commandments of the German Parachutist’, The Fall of Crete by Alan Clark.

Typically, the British Army of the Second World War still believed in training its soldiers to simply obey orders without asking too many questions. Officers rarely took NCOs into their confidence about operational matters, let-alone the rank and file. Consequently, when a unit’s officer was killed or badly wounded there was no one ready to take command with enough operational knowledge to complete the mission. The Germans adopted a far more enlightened and pragmatic policy, whereby every man was expected to be able to step into the shoes of his direct superior. The German Army’s system encouraged and rewarded initiative, flexibility and daring. The result was a crop of fine, resolute, gifted planners and aggressive leaders, such as Erwin Rommel, Walther Model and Kurt Student. Only later, as the war progressed, did the British and other Allied armies start to gradually adopt similar methods.

Victory or defeat in the corporate sphere may not cost lives but can certainly cost livelihoods. Rigid organisational structures and strong corporate cultures can often do more to hobble talent than harness it. Instead of fast-moving, flexible organisations always ready to ruthlessly exploit a competitive advantage, many companies are hindered by their own bureaucracy and an army of timid, indecisive middle managers. For fear of making the wrong decision, and being held accountable, these people make no decisions. Instead they choose to endlessly analyse or prevaricate. For far too long UK businesses have failed to appreciate the importance of investing in professional management training, internal communications and leadership skills.

In many ways the German military approach can be likened to Charles Handy’s concept of a ‘doughnut organisation’, as expressed in his book The Empty Raincoat. As a central organising principle Handy suggests a balance between ‘core’ roles, responsibilities or duties and a ‘bounded space’ where initiative, daring and imagination can be expressed, cultivated or tested. The major difference between a doughnut organisation and a traditional hierarchy, whether commercial or military, is one of trust.

The Allied commander of Crete saw no place for discretion or freedom of action among his line officers. Strict control of troop dispositions was supposed to ensure a predictable outcome. This proved counter-intuitive, as it simply robbed line-officers of their freedom of action; the ability to adapt to changing circumstances on the battlefield. The German system also sought to impose a regime of strict discipline and obedience within its ranks. The Germans instilled an extreme sense of duty and loyalty to the Fatherland within its troops. However, this was tempered with trust in a shared vision, values and beliefs plus a man’s personal qualities, such as integrity, intelligence and courage, as well as his professional talents. Men were recognised, rewarded and quickly promoted for their daring, inventiveness or inspired leadership. It’s hardly surprising to learn that many of Germany’s senior commanders during the latter stages of the war had been relatively junior officers at its outbreak.

Today we see many variations of Charles Handy’s doughnut organisation as numerous enterprises finally come to realise that bureaucracy tends to be cumbersome, unresponsive, costly and uncompetitive. One example of just such a transformation is the HM Treasury’s National Savings and Investments agency (NS&I). Until the late 1990s NS&I employed a staff of over 4,000 to develop, promote, sell and service its wide range of government-backed saving and investment products such as ISAs and Premium Bonds.

The new shape of work will centre around small organisations, most of them in the service sector, with a small core of key people and a collection of stringers or portfolio workers in the space around the core.

Charles Handy, The Empty Raincoat.

Finding itself increasing squeezed by new web-based entrants to an already overcrowded financial services market, NS&I struck a deal with Siemens Business Services (SBS). Siemens assumed responsibility for the bulk of NS&I sales and back office operations, excluding Post Office Counters Ltd. Over 3,500 NS&I employees, mostly sales, customer service and accounts people, transferred to SBS, securing their jobs and long term futures.

The remaining NS&I ‘core people’ were then trusted to concentrate solely on the development, marketing, advertising and launch of new financial products to the marketplace, or enhance existing ones. SBS received a guaranteed 10-year contract to run the NS&I call-centre plus its online and mail order businesses. Having dramatically increased its sales force almost overnight, Siemens could immediately compete for additional service sector contracts. SBS also furnished NS&I with the advanced IT systems necessary for them to get closer to their customers, understand them better, explore new market opportunities, and compete more effectively.

To deliver its products and services so they consistently surpass customer expectations, its essential that a company’s brands, people, suppliers and partners are carefully aligned and demonstrate a high level of interconnectedness. That same organisational structure must also be flexible enough to anticipate and adapt to changing customer needs, new opportunities and competitive threats. An organisation’s people must be given trust, encouragement, focus and direction rather than rules, regulations or limitations. Modern IT, IS and CRM systems can also provide the necessary tools for quick, confident decision-making, and sharing of corporate knowledge.

The process of gathering, assessing, sharing and, most importantly, using information cannot be underestimated. The fall of Crete clearly illustrates the point. History taught General Freyberg that only a naval blockade or amphibious assault could capture his island. That meant deploying many of his men to defend the various ports, harbours or other small anchorages that punctuated the coastline. The Germans had other ideas. German strategy relied on surprise, speed and a radical new form of airborne warfare. Success or failure hinged on the paratroopers immediately seizing Crete’s airfields rather than its harbours.

To secure and hold the airfields German paratroops had to be swiftly reinforced and replenished with food, ammunition and medical supplies while their wounded were evacuated. The landing strips would also provide a base from which to fly continuous fighter and dive-bomber missions against the island’s defenders. Certainly Freyberg’s men did defend the airfields, but both he and they seem to have totally misjudged their strategic importance. It was a simple enough equation: hold the airfields and hold the island. Do this and any seaborne element of the German invasion force would then be powerless to intervene.

However what made the loss of Crete such a bitter Allied defeat was the fact that Freyberg, his superiors and political masters knew exactly when, where and how the Germans intended to strike. Thanks to the code-breakers of ULTRA having deciphered most of the Luftwaffe’s Enigma radio traffic, the secret of Operation Mercury was out. Possession of this knowledge itself created a dilemma for the Allies, or so argues historians and academics. By acting on intelligence gained by ULTRA the Germans might be alerted to its existence, and change their codes in response. Faced with a potential intelligence blackout Allied High Command had a difficult choice to make. Ultimately, they chose to sacrifice the island rather than risk ULTRA.

Today, with the benefit of hindsight, it seems a highly questionable decision not to have shared or fully exploited ULTRA-gained intelligence for the defence of Crete. So what went wrong? It seems that Allied planners no-longer trusted themselves to make fair-minded strategic assessments or recommendations based on situational analysis alone. Doubt eroded their confidence, made them unnecessarily cautious, and blinded them to the possibility of inflicting Germany’s first major defeat of the war. After all, the Germans knew that airborne assaults were always hazardous adventures, and something of a gamble. Crete’s garrison was a well-equipped, experienced and a numerically superior force, which should have been quite capable of repelling an attack by lightly armed infantry.

In truth, surprisingly little about the failure of Operation Mercury would have given the Germans cause to question the security of their Enigma codes. On the other hand, an Allied victory at this juncture of the war would have been an enormous boon, after so many defeats. Morale across Europe would have soared while the myth of German invincibility would have finally been dispelled. And this achieved just a month before the German invasion of the Soviet Union. Strategically, the holding of Crete would have made the Mediterranean a much more dangerous place for German and Italian convoys, and placed greater pressures on their forces in the Middle East.

The decision to protect the ULTRA secret was one thing, but the failure to apply some sound military judgement in the defence of Crete was quite another. Any Allied officer worthy of the name should have learned some stark lessons about German strategic thinking, and the tactical deployment of Special Forces like paratroops since 1939, and planned accordingly. The Fallschirmjaeger should have been completely overwhelmed when at their most vulnerable: while aboard their slow and unarmed JU52 transport aircraft; during their descent; or just after landing, before they could retrieve their weapons containers. Instead, despite suffering initial heavy losses, the Germans were able to adapt, overcome and finally win a truly stunning victory. As for the Allies, their defeat had no single or readily identifiable cause. Everything from poor communications to an inflexible command structure contributed to their eventual overthrow. Of course, the lesson to be learnt here is that if something as intangible as trust, given or withheld at critical moments, can decide the outcome of battles then think about what it can do for your business.

Banquet 400: Winning Isn't Everything?

Banquet 400: Winning Isn't Everything?
By Christopher Harris

It's time for a change.

Three events into the Chase for the Championship, which I'll once again admit is a success story that I didn't see coming, and there's exactly one format adjustment I'd make. I'm not claiming I'm the first to think of it, but I'll bang the drum a little louder. (No, I'm not talking about fewer commercials, or side-by-side racing. That's needed even more, but corporate whore-mongering is what our sport does best.) Here's my latest stump: winning should count more.

As it is, the Chase is turning into a war of attrition. It doesn't matter if you win, as much as it matters if you don't finish 40th. And that's dumb.

NASCAR needs to award bonus points to an event's winner. It's really stupid that the first-place driver receives just 10 points more than the second-place finisher. And heck, if the second-place guy happens to lead the most laps, it's just a five-point margin. What incentive do teams have to really "go for it" in these 10 races? Shoot, did you hear Matt Kenseth after last Sunday's race in Dover? Kenseth was peeved because his crew chief told him to go for it, and they wound up running out of gas. And Kenseth's logic, while it seems backwards on its face, actually makes perfect sense: if the #17 team had simply come in for a splash of gas, gone to the tail end of the lead lap, and finished fifth, it would've been a better day than trying for the win, running out of fuel, and finishing 10th. The risk-reward ratio, in Kenseth's (correct) mind, wasn't worth the risk. Was he going to get so many more points if his fuel held on and he won the race? No. Finishing fifth with no risk would've been better.

And that's dumb. This is sports. Don't you want guys busting their humps to win, not massaging their humps to finish seventh?

Guys like Kyle Busch, Kasey Kahne and maybe even Jimmie Johnson have one bad race (okay, Busch has had two), and they're done? There's no way for them to make a Hail Mary and somehow, surprisingly get back in this thing? What that makes drivers do is race not to lose. If they were rewarded handsomely in the standings for winning, they'd be rewarded, y'know, for winning. Heck the whole original idea behind the Chase was to take drivers who, by the letter of the law, were "out of it," and give them new life in a "playoff" system by smooshing the points back close together again. Wouldn't giving a points incentive for wins do the same thing?

Last Week: Mea culpa. I never did get a head-to-head selection online in time for it to be of any use to you, the reader, and so I had only my straight-up picks to fall back on. Kenseth had the best car, and I had him as my #1 pick, but he ran out of gas at Dover, so Jeff Burton won the race. I, uh, didn't have him. So that's a losing week, our first in two months. We lose 0.5 of a unit (three bets of 1/6th of a unit), which brings us down to a positive net 18.77 units on the season. We've still won you money in 19 of 27 events.

Note: Please come back late Saturday or early Sunday when we'll post our head-to-head selection of the week. We'll do it when the online books post their head-to-head odds. We promise.

Take Matt Kenseth (6-1), 1/6th unit. I think Kenseth is as close to a lock to win a race as you can get with 43 cars starting at a track where he's never won. In my mind, everything is in alignment. First, he's peeved because of the happenings at Dover last week. Next, he's peeved about not winning at Chicagoland this summer, when Jeff Gordon (8-1) bumped him aside; Chicagoland is a rough parallel to this weekend's race in Kansas in terms of track-style. In addition, Kenseth was excellent on the two-milers in California and Michigan (he won two of the four races at those venues), which are some others that give good indications about Kansas performance. Finally, he was excellent at the Kansas race last year, when he finished fifth (and three of his Roush teammates finished ahead of him). All in all, despite the fact that he's still close to the points lead and has incentive to take it relatively cautiously, I think Kenseth wins this week.

Take Kasey Kahne (7-1), 1/6th unit. And if it ain't Milwaukee Matt, maybe it's California Kasey. (Okay, Kahne is from Washington State, but to me, he oozes Cali). Kahne was fastest in the Friday practice session and also won the pole for Sunday. Like Kenseth, he won at both California and Michigan this year, and finished fourth in the two events he didn't win at those venues. He didn't perform well at Chicagoland (22nd), but I saw a statistic on NASCAR.com this week: he's completed the most green-flag passes at Kansas of any other driver. That's good enough for me, and only a completely amazing string of wins is going to get the ninth-place Kahne back in the Chase mix, so he's got incentive to go for the gusto.

Take Dale Earnhardt Jr. (15-1), 1/6th unit. Junior has had a really great season at Michigan, California and Chicagoland, but it hasn't translated to any wins; he hasn't been a great downforce-track driver over his career, but things really do seem to be turning around for him in that respect. The truth of that matter is that I thought hard about putting Jeff Gordon in this slot, but I felt about the same about Junior and Gordon (this year each has roughly a sixth-place finishing average at the three tracks I just mentioned), but I can get Earnhardt at double the odds, so I'm going with him. Junior qualified 12th, right outside Gordon, who qualified 11th. The rub here is that it seems to me Junior, as much as any other driver, is trying to finish fifth in all these races, rather than win them, because he's got a championship on his mind. But I'm still picking him, because when Junior gets a car locked in, he can't help himself, and if that happens on Sunday, he'll go to the front and stay there. These are really nice odds for a guy who I think will at least have a top-five car.

While visiting Maine and exploring all that this glorious state has to offer, tourists may be surprised to find that there are two Maine casinos in existence. The Maine casinos, the Hollywood Slots in Bangor and the Penobscot High Stakes Bingo Casino offer gambling entertainment for you to enjoy during your stay in the naturally gorgeous state of Maine. Further, in addition to the two Maine casinos, the state of Maine is home to two racetrack facilities, the Bangor Raceway and the Scarborough Downs. Thus, both tourists and residents of Maine have the opportunity to make their gambling experiences complete.

The Hollywood Slots Casino is located in Bangor Maine and offers offer 475 different slots to choose from. Of the Maine Casinos, the Hollywood Slots Casino is relatively new and Maine officials are pleased with its arrival. Additionally, the Hollywood Slots Casino offers guests the opportunity to dine at an All You Can Eat American Buffet in Miller's Restaurant, located on site. Thus, visitors and tourists can dine and gamble until their hearts content at Hollywood Slots.

Alternatively, among the Maine casinos tourists will find that the Penobscot High Stakes Bingo Casino rests in Old Town and it is a casino owned by Native Americans that offers Pull Tab gambling in addition to Bingo gaming. Therefore, if the slots offered at Hollywood Slots do not appeal to you, the offering at Penobscot High Stakes Bingo Casino may.

Meanwhile, in addition to the Maine casinos, for those individuals looking for alternative gambling entertainment, Maine is home to two racetracks. Bangor Raceway is a seasonal operation that is open during the months of May through July and with a nominal entrance fee, visitors can get in on the harness racing action. Alternatively, the Scarborough Downs is open year round, every day, from noon until midnight. Again an entrance fee applies, and visitors can enjoy harness racing, live racing, and service at the Scarborough Club House.

Of course, while one is in Maine, they would do themselves a serious injustice if they failed to visit some of Maine's historical attractions in between their visits to the Maine casinos. Maine is home to the splendid Pine Haven Winter Park, Moose Point State Park, the Farnsworth Art Museum, the Rockin' Horse Stables, the Carousel Music Theater, the Cap'N Fish's Whale Watch, and York's Wild Kingdom, just to name a few of the many incredible destinations in Maine.

The NL Wild Card Spot

The NL Wild Card Spot
By Ken Angland

With only three games left in the regular season there are only two teams batting for that wild card spot both in the AL and NL. In this NL wild card race the Dodgers have a two game lead against the Phillies. So, its here in simple terms that the Phillies must win to have a chance at getting in as a wild card team and the Dodgers must get in the “L“ column. Both teams play the three regular season games on the road. The Phillies have the better overall road record this season at 42-36 while the Dodgers are 36-42. Both teams have posted a winning record on the road lately as the Phillies are 7-5 in their last 12 road games and the Dodgers are 6-4 in the last 10 on the road. However, as written in this paragraph earlier the Dodgers have the advantage with a two game lead as the Phillies must win and pull for the opposing team the Dodgers are playing.

The Phillies have a three game road series against the Marlins after coming off a three game road series going 1-2. The Phillies are 11-5 overall against the Marlins this season (4-2 on the road). In the previous series between the two, the Phillies playing at home, got the 3-0 sweep. The Marlins have played sub-par baseball lately but this team will be looking to play the role of keeping the Phillies out of the playoffs. In Friday’s matchup Moyer, starting pitcher for the Phillies, is 2-1 with a 4.74 ERA in his last three games. Moehler, starting pitcher for the Marlins, is 0-2 with a 6.57 ERA in his last three games.

The Dodgers have a three game road series against the Giants after coming off a three game road series going 3-0. The Dodgers are 10-6 against the Giants this season (4-2 on the road). In the previous series between the two, the Dodgers playing on the road, were 2-1. The Giants, as the Marlins did, have also played sub-par baseball lately. This team will also be looking to play role the a team out of the playoffs. In Friday’s matchup Ku, starting pitcher for the Dodgers, is 0-1 with a 3.44 ERA in his last three games. Lowry, starting pitcher for the Giants, is 0-2 with a 16.03 ERA in his last three games.

The Padres, in first place of the NL West, lead the Dodgers by one game. So, it could work out that the Padres get the wild card spot. The Padres would need to win only one game even if the Phillies go 3-0.

Card Counting Secrets

Card Counting Secrets
By Steven Gillman

Does card counting work? Yes. In the nine years I worked as a blackjack dealer, I saw a lot of hopeful schemes and ideas, and while many failed, some of them really worked. Card counting, in particular, has a proven track-record of making money for those who are willing to do it right.

Card counting is a little too involved to teach in a short article, but that's okay. Before you learn the specific skills, you need to know what it will involve to really do it right, so you can decide if it is worth the effort. That's what this article is about.

Card Counting 101

In the game of blackjack, card counting is a technique for "beating the house." This means you make more money than you lose in the long run, but not necessarily on any given day. You beat the house by playing in such a way that the odds are in your favor. How do you get the odds in your favor?

You watch and wait. When the deck is "rich" enough in high-value cards (10,J,Q,K,A), the odds tilt slightly in favor of the player. This has been proven statistically, although how much the odds favor you depends on the "house rules," meaning the exact rules of the game in that particular casino. The odds also depend on the number of decks that the dealer deals from, and how far into the "card shoe" (the holder that the cards are dealt from) the dealer deals before re-shuffling.

The basic idea is to monitor the cards as they come out, and when the deck has more high-value cards than normal in it, bet more. Bet less when the house has the edge, more when you have the edge, and the odds are in your favor. In other words, you should make money in the long run.

The above is a simple explanation, and you need to study a good counting book to make this work. You need to know "basic strategy," meaning you need to know when to take a "hit" and when to "stand." Your play has to be precise to really have the edge. You also need to practice at home for hours. It can be tough at first to keep track of all those cards flying out of that shoe, while the other players talk and waitresses interrupt you.

The "counting" part is essentially assigning a value to the cards and tracking them. This is done more easily at tables where the cards are dealt face up (except the dealer's "hole card"). In one system. Aces and face cards are given a value of -1, two through six are valued at +1, and seven, eight and nine are considered neutral.

Watching the cards, you add and subtract their values, betting the table minimum all the while. When you arrive at a predetermined count, let's say +7, you raise your bet. The high count means that there are a higher percentage of high-value cards left in the deck than normal. The odds are in your favor.

One card counter I dealt to for years would sit at the table for most of an evening, almost always betting the $2 minimum. He shifted chips from one hand to another, his own way of tracking the "plus or minus count." When the shoe (five decks of cards in this case) was rich enough in high-value cards, he would suddenly be betting two hands at $20 each.

He made money, but not much. Do this well, and you may still only get a 1.5% edge on the casino. If, between your minimum bets and the others you average $8 per hand, and 75 hands per hour are dealt, you'll make about $9 per hour. This assumes you can tolerate alternating losing and winning days and hours of concentration. Betting more brings that hourly rate up, of course, along with the risk of bigger losing days. Card counting is definitely not for everyone.

Casino Bonus: Gamble With Their Money!

By Eric Madsen

What could be better than landing at an online casino and discovering that they are offering a casino bonus? That's the term that online gambling sites use to describe money that they give YOU to gamble at their site.

Why in the world would an online casino give you some of their money? They realize that there are a lot of internet casinos out there for you to play at. They want you to play at theirs, so they offer you a pocketful of their money in the way of a casino bonus.

Of course, like anything else, there are rules and restrictions about how you can use your casino bonus. No casino online is going to let you simply withdraw the bonus and put it into your pocket. You have to play their casino games with the money that they give you.

Most casino bonuses work in one of the following ways:

Match Play Casino Bonus

This type of casino bonus is matches your initial deposit up to a certain amount. If you deposit, say, $20 they will match your deposit with another $20 of their own. You can't withdraw their $20 until you've won more than the amount that you have deposited plus their match. Most casinos online will match up to $100.

Free Casino Bonus

This casino bonus is for a set amount of money, usually $10 or $20, that the online casino will put in to your account as long as you make the minimum required deposit. If the internet casino is offering, say, a $20 free casino bonus, and their minimum deposit is only $10, you'll end up with $30 for your online gambling session.

Free Casino Bonus PLUS Match

If a particular online casino is trying to drum up a lot of business they will offer both a match casino bonus PLUS a free casino bonus. That means that they will match your initial deposit, up to whatever their limit is, and then add the $10 or $20 free casino bonus on top of that. That's one of the best deals in internet gambling so ALWAYS keep an eye out for that.

Loyalty Casino Bonus

The final common online casino bonus pays you a percentage back of your daily spends just like the "slots cards" program that you see in physical casinos do. The online casino keeps track of how much you wagered during each online gambling session and then credits some amount, usually a percentage point or two, back to your account at the end of each session. While this type of casino bonus doesn't seem like a lot of money at first, keep in mind that it is an ongoing casino bonus that you get every time that you play at that online casino. All of the other types are one-time only a casino.

There's NOTHING better than playing with the online casinos money, so keep your eyes open for those online casino bonus offers!

10 reasons why we gamble

Gambling is defined by the Dictionary as the following: To play games of chance for money or some other stake, or to take a risk in order to gain some advantage.

People have been arguing for years whether the desire to gamble is good or bad. It is the view of many people that gambling is bad, this is especially true with the more religious people. Others will tell you that gambling is good and that without taking risk which is a form of gambling we would not have much of what we have today without people gambling and risking what they had to get more.

From the 2000 people surveyed we received over 400 different answers as to why they were gambling, but the top 10 reasons were:

Money problems:

it seems there are many people who believe they can fix there money problems with gambling. Most of the people who claimed that money problems were the reason for them gambling lost more money gambling then they originally owed and had they not gambled would not have been so bad off according to them. Of this group none said they had managed to win the money they needed.

To win and become rich:

Of all the people interviewed these people seemed to be the least crazy. They came to the casino with hopes of getting rich and being able to quit there jobs and live the good life, but they also know that the chances are good they would all have to get up Monday morning and return to work.

To have fun:

These people had the right idea. They only wanted to have some fun take a little trip to the Casino, have some free drinks, play some games and if they win, good and if not that's ok also. These people came down with a certain amount they could lose and not be upset or broke and they stick to it. These people all seemed to be reaching there goal not one of them was complaining about how close they came to hitting big or what if they had just done this or that.

To get out of the house:

I noticed almost all of the people in his category were all males and were all married for more them 10 years and had kids. They said they like to come to the casino on average about once a month stay for a few hours, play some games and then head home.

This is how they make a living:

I found that these people and the ones who had money problems were extremely different. These people at least knew how to gamble, most of them had many years experience and some were regular tournament players with at least 1 win under there belts.

For a bachelor party:

From how high on the list these was it would seem that a trip to the casino on the grooms last nights of bachelorhood are becoming more and more popular.

For a wedding:

Apparently having a wedding at some of the larger casinos is Las Vegas or Atlantic City is becoming popular, apparently the casinos will give you an excellent price on the wedding hall and rooms for your guests, of course they do this with the knowledge that the guests will spend money in the casino so giving a good rate n the wedding is in there best interest.

Conventions:

Many companies hold meetings and conventions in the casinos, because they give good group discounts, and the companies like it because their employees and do business during the day and relax and have some fun in their spare time.

To make a game more exciting:

Remember not all gambling is done in casinos. Sportbooks are becoming very popular and some people find putting some money on their favorites team make the game more exciting.

Vacation:

Las Vegas in the last 10 years has become a popular place to bring the family. Las Vegas has many attractions for family fun. And in the evening after the kids go to sleep there is also plenty of adult entertainment.

The Atlanta Braves Will Not Go Away Quietly!

Every year, all of us bettors peruse the newspapers, magazines and internet searching for a team that will give us a nice return on our investment. I would love to be able to tell you all that for the past 14 seasons, from 1991-2005, I have wagered on the Atlanta Braves at the start of every year to win the division title. Had I wagered a $100 in 1991 on the Braves to win the pennant and then parlayed it every year for the past 14, I would probably be listed in Forbes magazine as one of the richest men in North America.

This season the Braves have been up against it, most notably with a very talented New York Mets team, and their reign atop the ladder of the NL East division is over. But this persistent bunch has put aside that reality and now is making a run at the wild card spot in the underachieving National League.

They presently sit 3 games back of the Phillies and the Padres and after their game against the Giants tonight, they head to Philadelphia for a huge 4-game series. Heading into the last 30 games of the year, the team that captures the wild card berth will need their big players to play huge. Adam LaRoche is 7-for-9 with five RBIs in the series against San Francisco (65-68). Since the All-Star break the first baseman is batting .368 (49-for-133) with 14 homers and 38 RBIs as Atlanta has climbed back into the wild card picture.

The team's fortunes will ride on the success of their starting pitching, however. Not to mention John Smoltz (12-6, 3.36 ERA) who has been nearly automatic since the beginning of July winning eight of his last nine decisions. Since July 3rd, the 39-year-old right-hander is 8-1 with a 2.85 ERA in 11 starts. He's also allowed fewer than two runs in six of those outings. Good to know when you're baseball betting.

Smoltz will oppose another veteran Matt Morris (9-11, 4.47) who looks to duplicate his last start for San Francisco. The right-hander snapped a four-game losing streak by throwing a three-hitter in a 4-1 win over Cincinnati on Friday. I won that bet at my sportsbook. Hope you did too.

Morris is 1-5 with a 3.11 ERA in 12 career games against Atlanta and has received just an average of 2.54 runs of support in those contests.

I suggest you lay the -178 and back the Braves tonight! It's sports betting at its finest.

Poker Strategy - Keep It Simple

When you start to play poker, you will more than likely be playing lower limit games. To beat these games does not require you to become a masterful poker player, it primarily entails that you are able to outplay poor opponents. To beat good players at higher limits can be incredibly difficult, entailing many complex moves. However, winning at low limits is pretty straightforward.

What do I mean? Basically, other players won't be paying attention to you. They only care about their own cards; they don't care about you or your cards. They will play their hand as they always play their hand, regardless of whether or not you are in the pot. You are basically a ghost to them...but hopefully you will be a ghost that's slowly taking their money! If you want to beat these types of players, you simply need to a play a straightforward game that will win in the long run. For example, play tight, don't do any fancy bluffs, bet aggressively when you probably have the best hand, and utilize pot odds for your drawing decisions.

When it comes to deception with these players, slowplaying can work. These players are easily fooled into thinking they have the best hand when they hit a pair on the turn, so giving them a free card when you hold the stone nuts can be to your advantage. However, bluffing is simply an exercise in futility. These guys want to see if they have the best hand. They'll pay to see your cards just so they can see them sometimes! Don't expect to scare any fish at lower limits with an extra $2 bet.

Master the art of choosing starting hands, employing pot odds, and aggressively betting your winning hands. However, psychological strategies are generally useless. Your opponents are not thinking too deeply, and attempting any fancy plays will only hurt you.

Why Play Poker On-line?

Why Play Poker On-line? -

Are you considering giving on-line gaming, poker to

be exact, a, try? In this author's opinion the pros far

outweigh the cons; here are several of many

reasons why you may tend to agree.

There are numerous reasons to play poker,

specifically Texas Holdem, on-line. Having played

both the old fashioned way (brick and mortar) and

the more high tech option I find that for the first

time in all my 45 years actually embracing

technology.

If one plays any form of poker for camaraderie, fun

or just plain human contact then perhaps virtual play

is not the best option. If sheer competition, playing

a lot of hands, testing your skill level and hopefully

earning a little coin is the goal then on-line play

should be considered second to none.

Probably the most obvious reason to give online

poker a try, and by try I mean at least 30 days of

serious play at whatever level you feel most

comfortable; not one minimum deposit session

where you make a bad call lose your roll, stomp your

little feet never to return, would be the

convenience.

All that's required is a relatively current computer

and an internet connection (please don't play with

dial-up).

If you'd rather not clean up you can play, if you

scare people in public you can play, if you are

agoraphobic you can still play.

In short you can always find a game on-line, 24

hours a day seven days a week. Nothing beats the

feeling of cleaning fish at three o'clock in the

morning staring at your screen in your underwear.

Always remember to keep plenty of snacks and your

energy drink of choice close at hand if you plan on a

long session.

Many players are under the impression that it is a

major disadvantage not being able to see your

opponent.

I wholeheartedly disagree and let me tell you why.

Not only is not having to see your opponent a plus,

not having to listen to them is at least as much of

an advantage. Wah, no more tells. If that's the case

then I'll gladly call you a waaahmbulance.

If you have been playing Texas Holdem for any

length of time you should realize that tells are not as

important as once thought.

Sure the concept made Mike Caro rich. Yes I

purchased his overpriced door stop as did many

others.

Individuals, myself included, play poker in patterns,

even the top professionals, but that's another article

for another time.

One last thought on anonymity, on-line no one can

see you sweat. If you don't handle your bad beats

well or just overreact when you get outdrawn on

the river then consider the internet a godsend.

Playing Texas Holdem, or any other form of poker

for that matter on line can be a real time saver. If

there is only time for a couple of hands, there is no

car to drive, no plane to catch, even the walk to

the poker room, sometimes in inclement weather,

becomes a thing of the past.

There are so many options and places to play on-line

that you never have to wait to play, unless of

course you come across a live game where the fish

outnumber the sharks and it thus becomes

profitable to get on the list. Even if you do put

yourself on a waiting list there is always another

game to play in the interim.

Nothing makes dinner at the computer taste quite

so good as cracking someone's pocket aces or the

often held onto big slick with the mere click of a

mouse.

In Las Vegas or any other poker Mecca around the

globe if you don't care for the game or even the

card room you're in then it's "these feet were made

for walking". On-line a new game is only a click

away.

Texas Holdem not working at the moment? Just

click and you are now seated at a virtual 7 card stud

table or Omaha, even Pineapple (whatever that is)

or any number of poker games situated all over the

web. (Need to find a site? Try

http://OneStopHoldem.com ).

Many sites offer blackjack and other popular casino

games when you're ready for a change of pace or

are perhaps looking for a way to kill time while

waiting to win your seat at the next World Series of

Poker main event.

Finding the stakes you want when you want them is

another consideration as to the superiority of on-line

play.

Let's get personal.

On my last trip to Las Vegas (June 2006), I made a

conscious decision to play Holdem at downtown

casinos exclusively to gather review material for

http://OneStopHoldem.com, a website for which I

am a major contributor.

If your game of chance is something other than $1/

$2 no limit Texas Holdem or $2/$4 limit Texas

Holdem please don't hold your breath in downtown

Las Vegas.

Omaha, what's Omaha? Forget playing Omaha hi/lo

split with pot limit on the river or any other pot limit

game for that matter and don't ask for a kill game

either unless you like being disappointed.

My apologies and thank you for allowing me to vent,

this is obviously a whole other article.

Where were we? Oh yes, on line you can play for

pennies or dollars, really big dollars, just be realistic as

to your bankroll and skill level.

Also, if you happen to suffer a bad beat or have a

less than optimal run of cards you can always drop

down a level and build your bankroll and composure

back up at a pace you find comfortable.

Faster game play is what attracts many of us to on-

line play. More hands per hour, at least twice as

many, equates to a greater potential for wins and

profits.

Who can say no to that?

Many poker sites offer turbo or otherwise

accelerated games in which every player involved

must make their decisions somewhere in the ten

seconds or less range.

A few sites even offer the option of play on up to

four tables simultaneously, a feature which may be

considered both enticing and scary.

By the way if you decide to give multi table play a

go please be sure your game is up to speed and you

are in the proper mind set with no distractions.

The final point up for discussion, but by no means

the last, would be the ease of record keeping on-

line.

Most sites offer hand histories as well as records of

tournaments played. Detailed accounts of all financial

transactions, hopefully leaning towards the

withdrawal end of the spectrum, are readily

available.

Many sites also offer note taking and player tracking

to assist in keeping tabs on you fellow poker

enthusiasts.

All this adds up to a fairly accurate method of not

only dissecting but also analyzing one's play.

To sum things up if you are not currently playing

poker on-line, consider giving it a try. If you do

decide to play for money please do so responsibly

and never with money which should be reserved for

the necessities of life.

Big Ben's Latest Injury Has The Books Scrambling!

It has been a wild year in Pennsylvania for Steeler sports fans as they waved goodbye to the 'Bus' Jerome Bettis and hoisted the Super Bowl. Just as fans were recuperating from their hangover, word arrived that Ben Roethlisberger handsome face had collided with a windshield, courtesy of his motorcycle colliding with a car. Once back on the field Big Ben looked smooth and the Steelers were looking forward to frying the fish on opening night of the 2006=2007 season in front of the entire football nation.

I had been looking at the spread months ago at my favorite sportsbook and declared that Miami would be a nice play on Thursday night as the rule of thumb in Vegas when establishing sports betting point spreads is to over-value defending Super Bowl champions. The early line of -4 validated my claims and Miami with former offensive coordinator of the Steelers Mike Mularkey, Caulpepper at QB, and an experienced defense, I had to love the dog.

On the weekend the Steelers got some bad news about their MVP quarterback when word arrived that he had undergone an emergency appendectomy, thus pushing backup Charlie Batch into the fray. As expected, the gamblers rushed to their favorite online sportsbook and Vegas with both hands full of Miami cabbage. There was so much one-way action that the line is virtually a pick-em!

This is where I feel bettors who took the fish as a -4 dog, would be wise to cover their proverbial a……… ss, by now laying a few greenbacks on the defending champions.

Many times over the years whether it be Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal, Manny Ramirez, or for that matter Big Ben have been forced to sit out a game and the newspapers and public predicted the demise of these star athlete's teams, the home side put their backs up against the wall and their teammates responded with a vengeance.

Let's not forget that we are talking about the defending champions and a coach Bill Cowher who will bait his players that the public thinks Pittsburgh is an average team without Big Ben. Remember Miami QB Daunte Caulpeepper is opening in the road, with a new offense and a suspect offensive line.

Pittsburgh QB Charlie Batch is a nine-year veteran who completed 22-of-37 passes for one touchdown and two interceptions through four appearances in August. He also led the Steelers to the pay window in two games that Roethlisberger missed with a knee injury in 2005.

It's your pick football fans!

Faster College Games Mean Less Points!

College football betting early in the season can be a tricky proposition at best, but now that the NCAA has decided to speed up the game with more running clock, the point total (over/under) have been affected mightily!

The case in point is on kickoffs where normally the clock would not start until the receiving team had touched the ball. Now as soon as tow hits the ball, the clock is moving. In some cases where there is a lot of scoring you will see 10-12 kickoffs a game, which will reduce playing time by a minute.

Once the pile has been uncovered and the referee places the ball on the ground, the clock will start. Whereas in previous years, the clock would not begin to move until the offensive team had snapped the ball.

College Football has also tweaked the kicking game rules to try and prevent touchbacks, which occur when the kicking team boots the ball deep in or out of the end zone and the offensive team gets the ball at the 20 yard line.

Major college games played during the season's opening week, employing clock and other changes aimed at picking up the pace, lasted an average of 3 hours, 3 minutes, a notable drop from last year's opening-week average of 3:20.

Thirty-one of the 72 games involving teams in NCAA Division I-A going into Monday night's Florida State-Miami (Fla.) match-up were completed in three hours or less. Only four lasted as long as 3½ hours.

A year ago, only five of 52 opening-week games finished in three hours or less. Thirteen went 3½ hours or longer.

With the clock running more, you will have less plays and thus the scoring will be down. Indeed, this year's opening games averaged 13 fewer plays than last year's. Teams totaled 101 fewer yards a game, and they scored 4.5 fewer points a game. This is something to consider if you are going to be making any proposition bets at your favorite sportsbook.

The effect was felt, among other places, at Oklahoma where the Sooners and Alabama at Birmingham ran a combined 110 offensive plays in OU's 24-17 victory. It was one of the lowest totals of the weekend and the lowest for a game involving the Sooners in 50 years.

West Virginia and Marshall got in 123 plays, a little below the first-week average of 126 and well beneath the 2005 opening-week average of almost 139.

High scoring machines like West Virginia are used to getting the ball 12-13 times a game, yet on the weekend only had the pigskin 10 times.

Miami-Florida State saw only 23 points in total, which favored the under bettors!

September UK Horse Racing Action With Tips from Malcolm Heyhoe

Punters are in for a busy time of it in September as the Flat racing season moves swiftly into its autumn phase starting with the William Hill Sprint Cup, a Group1 contest over six furlongs at Haydock on Saturday September 2.

Class has traditionally been the defining factor in this well-contested sprint course and it's therefore no surprise to see horses that have run well in the Group1 July Cup featuring again over the sharp six furlongs at the Lancashire course.

Weather permitting, the imperious Iffaaj should take all the beating if he turns out at the Lancashire course after an unlucky second to Les Arcs in the July Cup. Arguably the best sprinter in Europe right now, the Godolphin-trained colt won't want the ground too soft if he's to turn out at the Lancashire course.

In his absence the Jeremy Noseda-trained Soldier's Tale would hold strong claims. He is less ground dependent than Iffraaj and after a lengthy absence his connections are hopeful that she can return to the fray in winning form at Haydock Park. Nunthorpe hero Reverence is another to consider if he can harness his sublime talents to the longer trip.

If it's September then racing's rolling caravan must be in Yorkshire for the St Leger, the world's oldest classic which normally takes place at Doncaster. This time around the latter venue is being thankfully re-built at enormous cost and as a consequence the Leger meeting has been shoe-horned into two days at York - September 8 and 9 - instead of the usual four days.

This is no bad thing given the dodgy state of the ground on the Knavesmire and it will be relief when racing returns at Doncaster for 2008. Staged over a mile and six furlongs, the St Leger calls for stamina, courage and class in a prospective winner. A select field of eight or nine are likely to go to post and the hot favourite, Sixties Icon holds strong claims.

He's looked a class apart from most of his rivals when waltzing away with the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood last time, a race which is an acknowledged trial for the St Leger. Of the rest, the Mick Channon-trained Youmzain showed fine speed to land the Great Voltigeur Stakes at the Ebor meeting but that piece of form doesn't looks as strong as the Goodwood success of Sixties Icon.

The Tote Portland Handicap on September 8 is the big handicap race of the truncated Leger fixture and could go the way of the Stuart Williams-trained Hogmaneigh, an easy winner at Sandown last time who could well take in this race en route to a crack at the Ayr Gold Cup later in the month. Anna Pavlova is also a name to look out for in the Park Hill Stakes, a Group race for fillies on the same day.

Over at Leopardstown on September 9 the Baileys Irish Champion Stakes takes place at Leopardstown, and is one of the better clashes of the generations run over a mile and half all season. This time around all eyes will be upon Dylan Thomas as he bids to put a dreadful effort in the Juddmonte International at York behind him over a course that he has won over previously.

The following week racing heads north of the border or the three fine days of the Ayr Western Meeting and the Ayr Gold Cup, the richest spring handicap in Europe is the feature on Saturday September 16.

This year's race, which has been landed in four out of the past five seasons by trainer Dandy Nicholls, features not one runner from the Nicholls yard after an administrative error meant that no horse from the stable was entered for the great spring contest. The air must surely have turned the deepest blue above the Nicholls yard on the day this blunder was discovered.

Still northern trainers, who tend to do better in this race than their southern counterparts, will be gunning to secure the valuable prize once again with Stewards' Cup hero, Borderlescott sure to be among the leading fancies while Kevin Ryan's Mutamared holds good claims and Ian Semple's Scottish raider, Appalachian Trail is another for the short-list. Remember too that is a poor race for three-year-olds who often struggle in the large fields against their more experienced and older rivals.

Over at Newbury on the same day as the Ayr Gold Cup there's the always informative and influential Cambridgeshire trial in the shape of the £100,000 John Smith's Handicap which is required viewing for any prospective Cambridgeshire backers. Last year's winner of the latter race, Blue Monday, was just touched off at Newbury and this year's race may again supply the winner of the first leg of the autumn double.

On a cracking day's racing Leopardstown also stages the Irish St Leger, the only classic run outside of Britain this month and this should provide the fast-improving stayer Yeats with a golden opportunity to add to his Ascot and Goodwood Cup successes. It's had to see any horse being god enough to lower this one's colours.

On September 23 it's the chance for the top milers to strut their stuff in the Group1 Queen Elizabeth 11 Stakes at the newly re-vamped Ascot. George Washington's eclipse at the hands of the workmanlike Caradak in a muddling Celebration Mile at Goodwood represented the low point of three-year-old fortunes against the older horses and it will
Be interesting to see whether the 2,000 Guineas hero can come good again in the Ascot showpiece.

This year's classic generation has been wretched in competition with their elders and the Godolphin team will be hopeful of landing a fourth Queen Elizabeth Stakes in the past decade with their fast-improving Deauville winner, Librettist. A multiple winner this season, he should again go well now that he's shown he can cut it at the top level.

Newmarket is the final port of call in September for three days of the Cambridgeshire meeting on the Rowley Mile. Those keen to glean further Classic clues for 2007 will be hoping that Jeremy Noseda's star filly Sander Camillo turns up for the Cheveley Park Stakes for two-year-old fillies on September 28 while a day later the Prix Morny winner Dutch Art might will most likely be in action with the juvenile colts for the Middle Park Stakes. Whatever the final nature of the fields for races, the outcome of both contests could well have a significant bearing upon next season's spring Classics.

A cracking months' racing comes to an exiting close with the totesport Cambridgeshire on September 30 and there can be no better handicap run all season than this one mile and a furlong contest. Recent York winner Smart Enough looks a likely sort as does his fellow three-year-old Sir Gerard while of the older generation Fairmile makes plenty of appeal after a luckless defeat at Haydock in August.

Online Gambling Money Management Tips

A money management philosophy in quality online gambling should be as simple as the techniques and theories implemented by the best online gambling players. There is no need for complicated formulas and theories as the more simple the money management system, the easier it is to not only understand and believe in but also the easier it is to track and keep records of.

Rule number one in regards to quality online gambling money management, perhaps the golden rule, is to avoid parlays, teasers, props, and other related bad bets. Casino sportsbooks and online betting services like parlays and teasers because it can increase their profits and margins because such bets are low percentage plays and rarely pay off. A bigger problem with parlays and teasers for any type of player, whether it is an online baseball gambling player or an NFL bettor is that they can take what would have been a winning day and make it either less of a winning day or even turn it into a losing day. To put it another way, parlays, teasers and props increase the profit margins of casino sportsbooks and the best online gambling resource will tell you that parlays decrease the profit margin of a sports betting player. If you are betting baseball games online then you really want to avoid parlays.

Let's take an example of the best online gambling strategy from a college football Saturday as a player went 5-3 on his eight football picks against the odds on this game day. If this player was betting to win $100 per game had bet these football picks flat he would show an after "vig/juice" profit of $170 for the day. But if this same player screwed around with $100 worth of parlays on these eight football picks and none of them came in, (remember he lost three of his eight football picks), this player decreased his bankroll's profit margin down to $70 on a day in which he hit 63% of his football picks against the odds.

The absurdity of a parlay is best illustrated by an online baseball gambling player that went 4-1 on his betting on baseball picks against the odds. If this betting on baseball player bet those picks flat against the odds at $100 per game he would have a final profit of $390. If he bet all five picks together on a five-team parlay he would have nothing to show for what should have been a banner day against the betting board. Is it any wonder that sportsbooks and online betting services love parlays?

If you are looking at baseball games online then you don't want to follow the masses and bet parlays and teasers. Nearly every serious online gambling resource will discourage you from betting parlays and teasers. There no online gambling rules that tell you not to bet parlays but it usually is not a profitable idea. If you are looking at many of the accepted online gambling rules you will not see much to favor parlays, teasers or propositions. There are times when a parlay can be a decent bet but for the average player it is not a good idea.

I have gone over a few of the more important ideas of how to try and stay focused inside all the disorder of the casino. There are a few tips in how to control your self in the eye of danger.

When preparing for a trip to one of our planets many fine gambling destinations, you will need to keep some things in mind to keep yourself from getting caught up in all of the casinos hype.

It is different when sitting in good poker rooms, or popular online casinos, focusing on what you are doing in a casino is more difficult because of all the major distractions. Online casinos do not hold these problems, unless your kid is screaming from the other room and then that is another problem and another article. Right?

Many people head to the casinos everyday for some fun and relaxation from the daily rat race, and I am in no way implying that this is a bad thing, but these tips are more for the serious minded gambler looking to significantly increase their money so they can retire early and live the good life.

Focusing on what you have in front of you is extremely important, if this sounds too serious, well it is. If you do not have your head in the right frame of mind you may put yourself at risk by losing a lot of money. So you need to focus on having a game plan and sticking to that. If you have a tendency to falter in your steps in accomplishing something, than you may want to work real hard in sticking to it when the going gets tough.

When I speak of concentration I speak on many different levels. For example, you are starting with a bank roll of 25,000 dollars and after playing for a couple of hours or even days, you are down to your last 5,000 dollars. Now to a lot of people this is still a lot of money, but when playing with larger bank rolls, this is pocket change. But here after losing four fifths of your bank roll you need to continue to concentrate on the game you are playing. At this point you may totally lose you entire bank roll if you are not careful.

but when playing in a casino for real money relaxing should never enter your mind relaxing can cost you big time.

The opposite is also true if you start to win you can not then start to lower your concentration. When you are winning you will have the tendency to want to relax,

While you are playing your focus must be on your cards, the other players at your table and the dealer. You must block out all other distractions from your mind. The music coming from the casino bar, the lady in the tight short skirt and everything else does not exist for the time you are playing. One trick to do this is to watch the other players hands, blocking out everything at a casino is extremely difficult and it will take time to perfect.

These tips are basically common sense, if you do not know what is going on at your table how can you expect to win. The person with all the answers will always win in the end, and the only way to get the answers is to stay focused and watch. If you feel there is a tip I have missed please feel free to submit it to me by email at my website and I will read and respond to every request.

Gaming Winners

Before you plan a trip to Las Vegas or Atlantic City or going on a cruise with legalized Gambling, certain things you must know of, and the most important one being How To Win. Gamble is all about taking a calculated risk, using your skills combined with a strategy and finally one thing that all of us want, Luck.

The first and the foremost thing, quite undeniably is how to play the game. One should know the intricacies of the game, like how the bets are made, rules and winning odds. Watching a couple of games could be a good exercise too, watching the player's moves and those of the dealers also. What makes a good gambler? The question has been around for years. Skills needed in the games are different, while slot machines are popular for requiring absolutely no sills, yet some strategies can help you in deciding as to which games to play and how much to bet.

A bit more sill is however required for the card games such as poker and blackjack. Poker face is another ever necessary that that helps keep your opponent from calling your bluff. Probabilities and statistics do play a role and knowledge of the two can help you decide, whether or not to hit on a 12 in blackjack.

However games like lottery, scratch cards and keno, according to Lenny Frome, which require absolutely no strategizing. Just pick the right numbers and you and carry home wads of cash. Two types of betting quite similar to each other are horse betting and sports betting. These bets are possible on a variety of scales. You may bet with a friend, an office pool, or the majestic scale of the Las vegan sports betting area.

Irrespective of whether particular games have the potential to use strategizing or skill, all gamblers believe or want to, that they are in control of the game and in some cases they really do. You can be on your way of becoming a better gambler by familiarizing yourself with the games and the statistics involved.

Amongst Gamblers the most popular games are poker, blackjack, horseracing, slots, roulette, baccarat, craps, keno and lottery.

While poker and blackjack are popular card games which require skills and strategies, slots are pure luck. Games of lottery and keno are also more about luck then skills.

Games like Poker attract large numbers of people to the casinos every year. Mastering this game is all about knowing the game n and out; building relationship between players and understanding that you loosing are your major fault and the dealer can't do much to get you on the winning track. Blackjack is another majorly loved game, and a good knowledge of probability along with risk taking capacity can make you into a real winner.

Game of Keno, which is slightly complex and in many ways matches Lottery, is often described as a game of pure luck. Originated in China the game traveled to America ion the 1800's. However, there are some mathematically complex statistics to your aid, but they are as mentioned "too complex" leaving it surely as a game of Luck.

Tips to Win at Poker

The following are guidelines only and although they are intended to help you win more often we cannot offer any guarantee. These guidelines are mainly for pot-limit draw poker (when the maximum raise is the amount of money in the pot):

1. You generally need two pairs, which need to be stronger the earlier the pot is opened to raise.

2. You need at least two Aces to open the bidding unless there are only one or two other players to bet after you. If there is only one player to bet after you we suggest at least two kings and if you are the lastto bet you can get away with two queens.

3. If you intend to re-raise you really need triplets, probably about three sixes against the average player.

4. If the pot is opened in the last two positions you can call with two Kings. If the pot is opened in any other position we recommend you have at least a pair of Aces.

5. Do not call on a straight of different suits. Such as 9 of Clubs, 8 of Spades, 7 of Hearts, 6 of Clubs and 5 of Diamonds or any similar straight.

6. Most often players are not bluffing, if you have no reason to suspect from the way that they are playing that they have a bad hand youd do well to believe that they do have a good hand. However from time to time you should call their bluff or they will bluff more and more. You should also ensure you bluff occasionally or other players will never call you when you have winning hands.

7. Even when you have had a run of bad luck we strongly suggest that you do not play on a low pair, this is a common mistake with players who are losing and getting desperate don't fall into this trap.

We also suggest you read as much about the games tatics and stratgies as you can but remember there is no substitute for practise. You can play for free thus practise for free at any of the casinos reviewed on this site.

Online Poker Gambling Sees Tremendous Growth

Online poker gambling at casinos and poker rooms is one of the fastest growing forms of wagering on the Internet. Fueled by the televised tournaments seen on Travel Channel's World Poker Tour, ESPN with the 2004 World Series of Poker (WSOP), and Bravo's Celebrity Poker, the popularity of the game is seen everywhere. A huge number of the qualifiers for the 2004 WSOP gained their entries from playing in online satellite tournaments for a fraction of the large entry fees paid by others. Look for more players to enter 2005 world series of poker satellite tournaments for this reason.

Tournaments at land based casinos are becoming so popular that people are being turned away, with waits at some lasting two hours to get a table on the weekends. Smaller land based casinos are promoting poker tournaments in order to capitalize on the growing trend of the game. Even though the cut for the house is pretty slim, they report increasing revenues by the number of patrons who play other games, buy drinks and food. It is also allowing them to attract new players which are mostly twentysomethings and women which expands their customer base.

It seems that most of the upcoming poker stars are a lot younger than in the past. This is because the years of experience formally gained at the brick and mortar poker rooms is compressed into months when playing online. College students watching Texas Hold'Em poker on TV have taken to playing at crowded tables on campus or online where they can take advantage of the 24/7 availability of other players when they can. One college student stated that "Being able to lie (bluff) and get away with it is exciting when you know the hand you have is inferior to the one your opponents have." Plus being able to play for free is also a nice way to learn the game which is a feature that most poker rooms on the Net offer.

Learning the game is also becoming easier with free lessons at brick and mortar casinos and also The Travel Channel featuring review and analysis of poker hands on Wednesdays through it's WPT Poker Corner. Viewers will learn more in-depth about what they did not see. Discussions will go over the tells, the big mistakes, and the bluffing made by others players. This is an excellent way to learn how to improve one's game.

With the huge piles of money that people can win, more and more are getting into the game of poker. The 2005 WSOP championship for next year will boast a $6,000,000 first place prize and anyone making the final table will be a millionaire. The 2004 WSOP winner turned a $160 buy-in satellite shootout into a massive $5,000,000 check and so many endorsements he quit his job as an patent attorney. Visit our sister site to learn more about the 2005 World Series of Poker .

Gambling Comps 101 or The Ask Game

Gambling Comps 101 or The Ask Game

I don't know who did it or when it happened, but someone shortened the word complimentary to comp and made it an industry standard.

In casino language, comps are cash or gifts (freebies) that the casinos give to their customers as a reward for gambling with them. It promotes good will and also entices players to be loyalty to the establishment. In order to get comps from the casinos, you must play the ask game.

Most players think that comps are only for the guest who spend big bucks at the casinos and therefore don't ask for them.

This is wrong. There are many different comps given out by the casinos and it depends on how much money you play which comp you might get.

Casino properties give away everything from free candles to promotions that offer free rooms and food.

A small comp that a casinos gives away to everyone is free drinks. Most casinos will give you a beer or cocktail as long as you are playing. I have seen high rollers ( big money gamblers) ask for special drinks such as a rare Scotch Whiskey and the casino would get it to keep him there and gambling.

There is another comp that is generally easy to obtain and that is Casino Rate. The casinos like you staying and playing on property. They are willing to give you a discount on the hotel room rate and if you play enough you can probably get a full room comp.

In order to qualify for comps you need to do two things:

First of all you have to get your play rated. This means you must sign up for the casinos player's club and use your card whenever you play the machines. When you play table games you have to ask the pit boss to rate your play.

The second thing you must do when looking for a comp is to ask for it.
No one will ask if you would like a free meal or a free hotel room, you will have to ask for what you want. If your play qualifies for the comp you are looking for you will get it. If not you are told you don't have enough play. You can then inquire as to how much play is required for the comp you are seeking. Most of the casino employees will bend over backwards to keep you on property and playing.
So to recap:

Most casinos will give food and beverage comps freely if you ask.

Some will give the hotel rooms fairly easy during off peak times and sometime during peak times if you ask.

If you gamble big denominations, the sky could be the limit, if you ask.

A friendly smile and a polite inquiry can land you right in the middle of some very nice freebies. Aways play the ask game when you visit a casino.

Happy Gambling!
